Survey and specification
Measure the area, inspect access and levels, identify utilities, agree drainage and define the construction in writing.

Excavation
Remove the existing surface and unsuitable ground to the required formation level while protecting buildings, services and boundaries.

Sub-base preparation
Install and compact the specified aggregate in suitable layers. Soft areas may need additional treatment or excavation.

Drainage and levels
Form falls, install channels or infiltration components, and ensure water is directed to an appropriate destination.

Edging and restraints
Set kerbs, borders and edge restraints accurately so the finished surface is contained and levels remain stable.

Surface installation
Lay the chosen blocks, asphalt, resin, gravel or concrete to the relevant system and workmanship specification.

Compaction and finishing
Compact where required, complete joints and details, clean the site and protect the new surface during curing or settling.

Handover
Explain use restrictions, maintenance, guarantees, drainage care and what to do if a defect appears.
Ask for a written specification
A quotation should identify the surface, approximate area, excavation, sub-base, drainage, edging, waste removal, VAT, payment schedule and guarantee.
